Sarah Walters is a student currently pursuing a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Photography and a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Her future plans include attending graduate school to become an art therapist. Sarah’s artwork typically stems for her own personal experiences or is related to the human body. Her photographs explore the idea of a visual representation of trauma experienced from assault. Her metalwork consists of unconventional wearable objects that challenge the ideas of beauty and of traditional jewelry. There was a drastic change in Sarah’s work when in the summer of 2014, she fell ill with mononucleosis, strep throat, hepatitis A, and pneumonia all at once. Since this bout of bad health, her work has shifted from being architecturally based to focusing on health, the human body, and its experiences.
